2011 Centennial Obelisk Award Honorees
The Obelisk Award was established by Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to recognize distinguished leaders whose contributions to education, civil rights, cultural advancement, and student development created a lasting impact at The Ohio State University and throughout the community. We credit Kappa Chapter for establishing this enduring legacy of excellence.
Dr. William E. Nelson Jr.
2011 Centennial Honoree
A preeminent scholar and political scientist, Dr. Nelson was a foundational figure in Black Studies at OSU. His leadership reflects a lifetime of advocating for justice, academic rigor, and empowering the next generation of academic leaders.
Dr. Frank W. Hale Jr.
2011 Centennial Honoree
Known as the 'Dean of Diversity,' Dr. Hale dedicated his life to equity and inclusion. This award recognizes his monumental efforts in creating access for thousands of students and his impact on the higher education community.
Larry K. Williamson Jr.
2011 Centennial Honoree
As Director of the Black Cultural Center, Larry Williamson has curated history and art. This award honors his commitment to cultural awareness, community engagement, and supporting visual arts and education.
